Grant Progress Tracking Platform for GnosisDAO

Should GnosisDAO. Fund a Real-Time Grant Progress Tracking Dashboard? "*

{ Grant Progress Tracking Platform for GnosisDAO}

Track spending, grant impact, and deliverables — all in one place, with full transparency and real-time insights.

TL;DR
This proposal outlines the development of a Grant Progress Tracking Dashboard for GnosisDAO-funded projects, designed to provide the community with a transparent, user-friendly platform to monitor the progress of funded initiatives. The tracker will offer detailed milestone tracking, real-time updates, and automated alerts for deviations or delays. The goal is to provide unified access to all past and active grants, along with their statuses, at a total estimated cost of $2,000 per month over 12 months ($24,000 total).

Motivation
Currently, tracking the progress of GnosisDAO’s grant proposals is fragmented, with updates scattered across forum posts, Discord, and other community channels. This lack of cohesion limits the community’s ability to effectively oversee projects, evaluate performance, and act on potential issues quickly.

Rationale
To address this, we propose building a Grant Progress Tracker with the following features tailored to GnosisDAO’s structure and governance workflow:

  • Milestone Tracking: Dedicated pages for each grant showing key milestones, progress bars, percentages, and completion status.
  • Real-time Updates: Live updates on project milestones and overall progress.
  • Automated Alerts: Notifications for overdue tasks or scope deviations, sent via in-app messages and email.
  • Visualizations: Interactive charts and graphs to visualize timelines, risks, and achievements.
  • Risk Detection: ML-powered analytics to identify early signals of delays, deviation, or misuse of funds.

Grant Overview Features

  • Project List View: Includes completion rates, risk scores, and last update timestamps.
  • Filterable Dashboards: Allow users to zoom into individual projects or view overall grant portfolio health.

Risk Assessments:

  • Smart risk scores and automated red flags.
  • Visual indicators of project health.

Project Details Pages

  • Milestones & deliverables
  • Funding history & current status
  • Linked community discussions (Gnosis Forum, GitHub, etc.)

Organization and Admin Tools

  • Admin controls for the GnosisDAO Grants Committee or designated stewards
  • Tools to set alerts, filter dashboards, and take corrective action
  • Permissions-based views for different stakeholder levels (public, stewards, builders)

Project Scope & Cost Breakdown
The project is scoped at $2,000 per month for 12 months, totaling $24,000, covering development and ongoing maintenance. This includes:

  • Front-end dashboard
  • Risk detection engine
  • Admin controls and integrations
  • Public interface for community users
  • Tools for independent reporting and oversight

Benefits to the GnosisDAO Community

  • Transparency: Centralized access to grant progress, performance metrics, and spending.
  • Accountability: Helps ensure grant recipients meet their milestones and obligations.
  • Community Engagement: Empowers the GnosisDAO community to monitor, question, and contribute.
  • Proactive Resolution: Enables early intervention on risky or stalled projects.

By offering a seamless and transparent way to monitor GnosisDAO’s grant initiatives, this proposal aims to boost accountability, trust, and successful project outcomes across the ecosystem. The dashboard can be integrated into the Gnosis governance forum for easy access.

Thanks for your post @BuildUnion. Though DAO-led grants are few and far between at the moment, we do hope that this will change in the near-enough future, and that your proposal merits consideration and seems to be very reasonably priced.

With that said, we raised a temp check on the topic of procuring governance analytics which we feel could potentially overlap with this proposal (to the extent that we consider DAO-led grants a governance item). Our comments there and on the other proposals referenced also apply here: we feel it would be best to adopt a holistic approach to analytics and dashboards for the DAO’s governance, working with fewer providers with a consistent, long-term approach.

On that basis, our current view on this proposal is that we would not rush to approve the proposed budget and begin building grant tracking analytics because: (i) we’d rather this proposal form part of a wider procurement effort covering all the governance analytics topics already raised; and (ii) we don’t feel that there are sufficient ongoing grants to warrant grant-tracking as a standalone work stream (for now!).

Nonetheless, we are very grateful for the proposal, and hope to involve your efforts in our suggested procurement workstream.

Thanks so much for the thoughtful and constructive feedback.

I appreciate your points on the importance of a holistic approach to governance analytics and agree that aligning efforts across fewer providers with a long-term vision makes a lot of sense, especially at this stage in the DAO’s evolution.

Please keep me in the loop as the discussions around the governance analytics procurement effort progress. We’d be happy to contribute to the DAO tooling in whatever way is most useful.

This one goes into the bucket with several recent initiatives around DAO involvement improvement, general tracking, etc we have seen lately. I’ve been supportive of the ideas in general, but think they are best implemented internally. Gnosis Ltd has a large number of people working for it who would likely be better positioned to track all grants and provide update on progress. Karpatkey could also reasonably be engaged on that front. If the DAO wants this, I would prefer we send the request to Freiderike/Martin and have someone internal run it. Appreciate the thoughts here

Thanks for your input, the aim is to add an independent layer of oversight.
