Deprecation Notice: Hashi on Gnosis Canonical Bridges ends Maintenance

Hello Gnosis Community,

We’d like to share an important update regarding Gnosis Chain’s canonical bridges(AMB (Omnibridge), xDAI bridge). The Hashi integration initiative — originally approved under GIP‑93 and subsequently implemented across both the AMB & xDAI bridges—will be formally deprecated.

  • Active maintenance will cease by 22 August 2025.
  • The Hashi validator will be removed from the bridge UI by 29 August 2025.

Deprecation means that the server infrastructure powering Hashi—responsible for generating/verifying proofs and executing messages once consensus is reached among Hashi oracles—will be shut down. On-chain components (e.g., the Hashi Manager contract and Hashi integrations within the canonical bridges) will remain deployed but is not mandatory for message execution.

The canonical bridges themselves will continue to operate seamlessly under their original 4-of-7 multisig validator security model.

  • The integration was approved by GnosisDAO members on April 2, 2024 under proposal GIP‑93. It introduced advanced security mechanisms—including the Hashi Manager contract, adapter thresholds, and Hashi-enabled and mandatory validation features—for enhanced robustness in cross-chain bridging.
  • These enhancements were successfully deployed within Gnosis Chain’s **AMB** and xDAI token bridge, establishing redundancy against oracle failures and systemic risks.

:warning: Why the project is deprecated

Unfortunately, ongoing development and maintenance of the project can no longer be supported, as no further funding has been allocated by GnosisDAO funding. Without sufficient resources and governance backing, the project cannot continue in production or evolve further.

:folded_hands: Recognition of the team’s work

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed—developers, auditors, integrators, and community members.

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: What this means going forward

  • All active maintenance for Hashi—including support, upgrades, and audits—will be discontinued.
  • The deployed Hashi components will remain in place but should be considered feature‑frozen; no new functionality, fixes, or improvements will be made.
  • Canonical bridges remain fully operational, secured by the original 4-of-7 multisig validator model.
  • The additional zero-knowledge proof validation provided by Hashi will no longer be supported.
  • Users of the canonical bridges do not need to take any action. Bridge functionality and user experience remain unchanged.
  • Users who specifically relied on Hashi’s proof-based features should carefully evaluate whether continuing under the canonical bridges’ 4-of-7 multisig model remains suitable for their technical and security requirements.
  • Any future initiatives may require a new governance proposal and fresh funding allocation.

Please note that all Hashi-related features are now unsupported and remain available on an “as-is” basis. By continuing to use these features, you acknowledge and accept any associated risks. The Bridges Team cannot provide guarantees or assume responsibility for any issues, losses, or damages that may arise.

funding ran out and instead of asking for more $ the team has decided to deprecate Hashi

wonder about the reason cause they posted last summer:

In the next steps, we will proceed to the rollout phase, where Hashi will become a mandatory validator, followed by the final phase, which involves decommissioning the legacy validator set to fully transition to Hashi’s enhanced security model.

so the main reason for deprecation is missing for me. Were there any technical or personal issues that makes it impossible to proceed as planed? But maybe this question is better addressed to @Cross-chain-Alliance

The decision to deprecate Hashi was a strategic one made after careful consideration by the Gnosis Bridges team. In evaluating the project’s sustainability and long-term viability, it became clear that the zero-knowledge proof validation, while providing an additional layer of security, was making the bridge slower and more expensive to maintain. The technical and financial challenges of making it a mandatory component, as was originally planned, proved to be significant.
The team concluded that this specific path was not the most sustainable solution for the Gnosis Chain ecosystem. Therefore, continuing to develop and maintain this particular solution was not seen as the most efficient use of GnosisDAO’s resources.

thanks for elaboration, makes it a bit more clear to me although

is something that should be discussed here in the first place and not by some ppl behind the scene.
