dOrg's proposal for funding contributions to Gnosis Zodiac

Simple Summary

This proposal would fund dOrg’s contribution to the development of the Zodiac open standard for DAOs for one year. The treasury allocation would cover the cost of 3 full-time dOrg builders operating as a single pod, for a total of USD 672k paid in 45% GNO as a long-term incentive with a two-year cliff followed by a one-year linear vesting period.

Option/suggestion

We’re considering an optional extension to this proposal for designing a Gnosis Zodiac Bootstrap Package, that would include:

  • an introductory session (presentation of Safe+Zodiac, assessment of needs wrt progressive decentralization and Zodiac standard and custom components)
  • an initial setup with standard components and associated products (ENS, Snapshot…)
  • a handover session with the project team

The deliverables would consist of the required material to conduct the sessions and guide the implementation of the setup, along with templates of the technical doc for the project team.

dOrg would use them to provide an easy way for any project to start using Zodiac, but they would be licensed as Creative Commons so that Gnosis Guild or anyone can use them directly or for their own clients.

Abstract

dOrg is a DAO-powered collective of Web3 builders. We’ve been contributing to Gnosis Zodiac since May 2021, initially on the SafeSnap feature, more recently as a full pod embedded in Gnosis Guild. As the Safe and Zodiac evolves towards a set of DAO tooling resources maintained and developed by an open ecosystem of active contributors, this proposal aims at solidifying our partnership through the commitment of experienced resources and the alignment of incentives in the long term.

Motivation

dOrg is an autonomous collective of engineers, designers, and other web3 specialists. We build tools that empower people to self-organize. dOrg operates as a DAO since its inception in 2019, as the first DAO incorporated under US Law (as a BBLLC in Vermont). dOrg has contributed to a large number of prominent projects in the Web3 space, such as Balancer, The Graph, Compound, Boardroom, Starkware, or Aragon. We also designed and implemented DAO tooling for DAOstack and Tezos, among others.

Last year, dOrg upgraded its own DAO infrastructure stack and chose Gnosis Safe as the new foundation for managing its budgets and builders’ payments. We started to contribute to the implementation of the Gnosis SafeSnap module in May 2021, and since then we’ve kept collaborating with Gnosis on Zodiac.

We currently have a pod of 3 senior engineers (with skills and experience covering product design, frontend, Web3 integration, backend and smart contract development) working full-time on Gnosis Zodiac, as part of Gnosis Guild. As Gnosis Zodiac expands and evolves towards an open ecosystem of contributors, we believe dOrg is ideally positioned to become one of its core contributing members.

In addition to delegating builders already experienced with the Zodiac suite, dOrg can also tap into its own ecosystem of clients, in order to:

  • help them to adopt Gnosis Safe + Zodiac (already did for 3 of them)

  • create best practices and packaged services that make Zodiac easier to set up and implement

  • channel back to Gnosis Guild requirements, requests and ideas used to shape new Zodiac features
