TL;DR
This proposal is a temperature check on Gnosis DAO’s EIP-4824 adoption. EIP-4824 is a metadata standard for DAOs, already embraced by the likes of Optimism, Aragon, Snapshot, ShapeShift, etc. No changes to Gnosis DAO’s governance/smart contracts, no transfer of funds are involved with this proposal.
Gnosis DAO is an early DAOstar supporter and DAOstar One roundtable member, helping finalize EIP-4824 and increase its adoption within the DAO ecosystem. Now is the chance to go a step further by onboarding to EIP-4824.
ABSTRACT
The EIP-4824 standard defines common interfaces for DAOs via daoURI, akin to tokenURI for NFTs. If passed, this proposal will extend Gnosis DAO to EIP-4824 by deploying a new registration contract through a contract interaction with the EIP-4824 factory maintained by DAOstar.
MOTIVATION
The absence of a global DAO interface has been holding back the ecosystem for a long time. New DAOs and DAO frameworks have zero visibility on aggregators, most tooling providers have a hard time integrating with different DAO architectures, there is no comprehensive, self-maintaining registry for DAO data, etc. EIP-4824 aims to solve the above issues by providing a method for DAOs to self-publish information irrespective of their architecture or the chain they exist on.
Adopting the EIP-4824 standard will enrich the on-chain information availability of Gnosis DAO’s governance contracts, making it easier for existing and future DAO tools to seamlessly interact with the contracts. A specific example is enabling members to interact with the Gnosis DAO governance contracts through different front-end interfaces, potentially across multiple chains. Some of the tools that are digesting or committed to digesting this enriched information include Snapshot, Tally, Etherscan, DeepDAO, and other members of DAOstar One.

- Importantly, adopting this standard does not necessitate any fund transfers from Gnosis or alterations to its current smart contracts. It simply involves deploying a registration contract to store Gnosis’s daoURI.

We are supported by the Ethereum Foundation, Gnosis, Optimism Collective, The Graph, Aragon and other members of DAOstar One. 80+ key organizations in the DAO ecosystem are active members of the DAOstar One Roundtable.
SPECIFICATION
EIP-4824 related smart contracts have not yet been deployed on the Gnosis chain. We plan to deploy them in the coming weeks, accompanied by an indexer and enhanced front-end visibility for registrations occurring on the Gnosis chain.
The architecture and details of these contracts will closely resemble those already deployed on Ethereum and Optimism (more details here). We will provide full execution details in this thread before the proposal is put to a vote. We will also create a daoURI for Gnosis DAO incorporating the feedback here. The DAO will have to do no extra work or deploy extra capital to see this through, other than executing an onchain transaction to publish the daoURI.
CONCLUSION
With the support of Gnosis DAO, we aim to boost awareness of the standard within the Gnosis ecosystem. In the initial phase of this initiative, we intend to connect with 20 DAOs on the xDAI chain. We’ll gather their feedback and assist them in adopting the standard. Gnosis DAO’s endorsement and adoption of the standard will significantly bolster this initiative.
