Should GnosisDAO fund integration and ecosystem support with the Infinity Wallet?

Summary
This proposal is to integrate/support Gnosis and its ecosystem within the Infinity Wallet, to allow for seamless usability, accessibility and discoverability of the Gnosis ecosystem, paving the way for wider user adoption globally. As well as setting up a fund for the Gnosis ecosystem to directly integrate ecosystem projects into the Infinity Wallet, waiving our usual DApp integration fee for projects.

Abstract
Infinity Wallet is the first non-browser-extension, multi-chain all-in-one non-custodial wallet ecosystem of its kind on desktop, supporting over 170,000 users within August. Providing a one-stop solution for seamless usability of DeFi and NFTs, and a gateway to the world of DApps directly within the wallet’s Web3 browser, fulfilling all a user’s needs!

From day one, we have focused on enhancing and providing the best possible user experience and lowering the barrier to entry, to allow for streamlined and secure adoption of DeFi and Web3. Providing a world-class user experience with a seamless user interface, and a full spectrum of constantly growing features and services as a one-stop hub, delivering a more curated in-wallet experience. Making Infinity Wallet the complete solution for all crypto users’ needs, while making adoption and usage of DeFi and Web3 easier than ever before.

Infinity Wallet is also the first desktop platform to provide users with access to the entire Web3 and DApp space without needing to leave their wallet, with the first Web3 browser and DApp store directly within the platform (Web3 Browser & Web3 DApp Store - Infinity Wallet). Finally removing the need to ever use unintuitive browser extension wallets again! Providing a far superior, safer and more natural user experience, with a range of unique advantages/benefits for users, DApps and chains alike, while enabling easier adoption.

Problem/Solution
The problem today is that while wallets are the most fundamental component required for usage and adoption of a chain and its ecosystem, they are one of the least well developed applications in the crypto ecosystem. Wallets currently act mainly as an interface, serving primarily as a transaction signing layer, with very limited functionality or direct features/services/protocols (users generally have to search, find, learn and interact with many different applications and services), and are generally lacking in basic UX, while providing very unprofessional, hard to use and aesthetically poor user interfaces. This has been sufficient for the early adopters in crypto, however, for the next billion users to onboard to Web3, a more curated and high quality user experience is required.

Infinity Wallet steps in to fill this need, as a one-stop hub for all DeFi, NFT and Web3 activity. Providing a unique solution with a full spectrum of services, features and protocols in a premium platform, with a focus on delivering a seamless user experience and a user centric interface. Streamlining accessibility and lowering the barrier to entry, to allow for true adoption of DeFi & Web 3.0 globally.

Benefit/Impact
We believe Gnosis will make a great addition to the Infinity Wallet and will be well received by both our and the Gnosis ecosystem’s users, which is why we have reached out to cooperate on this integration. As a unique one of a kind ecosystem, we look to integrate and collaborate with chains that are innovating the space, to provide users (of Web3, DApps, DeFi, NFTs, etc.) with access to all of their crypto needs, and provide chains with much needed value (infrastructure, features/services and a premium quality platform). Integrating chains across our wide range of features/services and supporting their Web3 ecosystems (DApps & Tokens) is a consuming task however, hence why we can only integrate/support chains that are able to collaborate with us.

Infinity Wallet will benefit the Gnosis ecosystem and holders by providing a unique all-in-one wallet & ecosystem solution on desktop (with mobile to come in the future), with a focus on premium quality. Delivering a seamless user experience and a user-centric interface, along with access to current and a wide range of constantly growing features/services. Providing Gnosis access to the many advancements we have, that are already bringing real value to the crypto/blockchain space.

Infinity Wallet will allow Gnosis and its ecosystem to be more easily adopted and used by the general public, in a unique multi-chain crypto wallet and Web3/DApp browser built for the masses, and used already by hundreds of thousands of users worldwide to access DeFi and connect to Web3/DApps directly within their wallet. As a one-stop platform for all users to directly access all their DeFi, Web3 and crypto needs, making adoption of the Gnosis ecosystem as easy and intuitive as possible and boosting awareness, usage and utility.

Below are some of the key features and services that chains are already benefiting from within Infinity Wallet, and that could benefit and bring value to the Gnosis ecosystem:

  • Portfolio and Analytics Monitoring/Dashboard;

  • Web3 browser and DApp store (One-click connect to DApps, with utmost discoverability and use of a chains’ ecosystem);

  • Cross-chain swap and bridge (Swap/Bridge between multiple supported chains);

  • NFT support to manage (view, send and receive) and trade NFTs;

  • Advanced Transaction History and balance/value charts;

  • Custom Token Importing (Allowing any token to be imported, even if not default supported);

For a detailed look over our many current and future features/services please see our information deck available at https://infinitywallet.io/docs/Infinity%20Wallet%20Deck.pdf (pages 10-24 list core features/services and roadmap), or our docs here https://docs.infinitywallet.io/infinity-wallet/features-and-notable-advancements (detailing further information on core features/services and secondary features, as well our roadmap)

Partnership benefits
By integrating Gnosis we will bring a wide range of constant benefits and open the doors to easier ecosystem usability and discoverability, which will result in a more seamless user friendly experience and allow for easier adaption of the Gnosis network. Some additional benefits include:

  • Free integration of Gnosis Web3 Projects/DApps “Ecosystem Support”;

  • Continuous support of Gnosis with maintenance and integration into future available features/services/platforms;

  • Free continuous marketing/awareness, through our current and future constantly growing user base;

  • Co-marketing and announcements;

  • Live user-support, providing the ability for Gnosis chain users to enjoy a high quality experience with live support (live support requests are generally related to the chain’s ecosystem “DApps” or questions regarding a chain, which are issues unrelated to the wallet, as generally most DApps and chains don’t have live support, meaning users fall back to us);

Budget & Timeline
The timeline for integration would take around 4-5 weeks from start to live launch. While maintenance, ecosystem support (direct DApp & token integrations and ecosystem collaborations) and future developments into available features/services and platforms will be on-going.

  1. Complete integration and continuous support of Gnosis in the Infinity Wallet and its available features/services:
    Amount - $60k in GNO;

  2. Ecosystem Fund to support DApps & ecosystem projects, with which we will waive our usual yearly DApp fee that we would generally charge ecosystem projects to be integrated into the Infinity Wallet:
    Amount - $100k in GNO locked and linear release over 2 years;

This would usually be equivalent to 10 project/DApp integrations over 2 years. However, as part of the Ecosystem Fund we would waive our usual DApp fee and support unlimited Gnosis projects/DApps that meet our requirements during a 2 year period. Providing Gnosis projects/DApps with free integration, further driving awareness, discoverability and adoption.

Note: The Ecosystem/Project Support Fund will require us to support a minimum of 10 projects a year, with no maximum. If we support less than 10 projects a year during the 2 year period we will discount from the fund the usual DApp fee per a project, and the remaining will extend the Ecosystem/Project Support funds period, until fully exhausted.

Key Deliverables

  • Integration and continued support of Gnosis into Infinity Wallet and its wide range of features/services for unparalleled ease of use and adoption of Gnosis;

  • Providing Gnosis and the Gnosis Ecosystem access to a vast user base of over 170,000 users within August and growing, bringing constant free marketing, awareness and adoption;

  • Free integration of Gnosis ecosystem projects “DApps”, by waiving our usual $5,000 yearly fee per DApp. This will allow Gnosis DApps & Web3 projects to be freely integrated into the Infinity Wallet, driving ongoing ecosystem discoverability and adoption;

I haven’t looked in deep till now but, rushing through ‘Terms of Service’ on your site I got stuck at:

‘You shall not reverse engineer, decompile or otherwise disassemble our Services’

Isn’t the code available in your github anyway? If this isn’t the case I am not sure if it fits the values of the typical gc user. Personally I wouldn’t use it for more as some play money.

Also I couldn’t find any info about the structure of your project. Are you a ‘for profit’ company?
Might you give us some introduction about this? E.g. How many you are, were you are located and how you got funded till now?

Yes finally! Love Infinity Wallet using it for the last 6 months after switching from MM and ow my god its a total next level experience, sadly still having to use Metamask for some chains like Gnosis, but hopefully that changes soon with this. Insane good wallet, best live support which is great for a fully decentralized platform and the best in tech and UI/UX, if only all projects were up to such standards and innovative in the space like IW we might have mass adoption already xD

From what I know I believe they are a self funded free to use platform with no investors or funding operating for 2 years, but I think they are best at answering that 100%.

Not sure it even matters if a project is open-source or not as long as decentralized. If we are funding a projects development then yeah should be open-source, but funding integration/deployment into existing big platforms or infrastructure like wallets is needed for Gnosis growth and adoption, especially when 99.99999% of users don’t bother about open-source and just want innovative and user friendly projects.

If limited to open-source Gnosis will never get the adoption it deserves. Most large software platforms are not open-source for either security concerns around open-sourcing software, competitive/business issues it causes, extra cost/time etc. Integration/deployment into existing platforms is something we have to pay as a chain if we think they will help Gnosis grow, and can’t expect them to support us with free infrastructure and marketing out of their own generosity.

Agree that open source shouldn’t be a must in all instances (although I doubt that < 0.00001% care about) but in case of a wallet we fund to integrate GC we should either be able to judge about security or know who will take care (and responsibility) of it.

I don’t think supporting a centralized closed source wallet like this is a good idea. The proposed budget is excessive given the listed deliverables.

I tried doing some research into Infinity Wallet and didn’t find anything except for some proposals to other protocols, promotional pieces posing as news, and two individuals on LinkedIn. They have also had the exact same three positions listed as open on their website for two years.

I do not support this proposal.

EDIT: Their mobile versions have also been listed as “coming soon” for two years.

I looked into them and they are decentralized so just seems like your trolling them.

I agree that knowing the company/team that is doing the integration, but you can’t really ever judge security by open-source software. Open-source code may not always be the same as that which is served on the website download link, so unless you:

  • Download the open-source code;
  • Review every line of code;
  • Compile the app;
  • Repeat with every update;

Then open-source software means nothing at all.

Especially since 99.999999999% of users will download via a website. I have had a business in the past and open-source matters nothing to retail users, all it matters to is the very small % of devs/scammers that want to run locally/contribute or clone/scams users. Open-source is generally good for protocols, blockchains, libraries and certain platforms, and generally depends on the company/team focus and resources needed to maintain open-source which can be quite a lot depending on the type of project.

EDIT: As for this specific proposal, I personally would never open-source wallet software as it provides too many opportunities for end users to be scammed easily, proprietary software to be cloned and etc…, especially for larger well known wallets focusing on end users rather then developers. It wouldn’t provide any benefit to the wallets team by open-sourcing, it would only benefit a very very small % of devs or scammers.

Just wanted to say I use IW and its fantastic. One of the best unique wallets in the space and would really like to GNO supported

@jbradach calling it centralized when its false as they are decentralized is quite low

Hello, thanks for everyone’s feedback.

To clarify Infinity Wallet is not a centralized wallet, but a decentralized self-custodial wallet allowing users to hold their own crypto on their device and interact with DApps, as the first all-in-one desktop wallet and Web3 browser. As with all self-custodial wallets, users are ultimately responsible for the security of their own crypto/keys and securely storing their recovery phrase backup, preferably on a cold device or on paper.

You can find more about the team here: Infinity Wallet Team Information - Google Docs

Even though I agree that no single person will review every line if code before using a piece of software, I strongly believe that it makes software more trustworthy if the code is easily accessible to review.
The code don’t have to be free to use for everyone, even Metamask went from the MIT license, but it should be auditable for everyone interested to do so.
Therefore I still don’t see a valid reason for the sentence I cited in my first comment taken from the terms of use of infinity wallet.

edit: and I wonder why @InfinityWallet didn’t address it in the comment above, maybe the code is completely available in GitHub and the sentence found its way to the terms of use only by using some universal templets?
