The Future Of DAO Spending

I’ve been thinking about this for quite sometime and I really think Gnosis is in a special position with DAOs and spending that we should be capitalizing on (I say we as a recent member). Currently in Nouns and most likely in many DAOs when a prop gets passed it gets sent to a multi sig safe but from there you can just get all the signers to distribute funds to pay for IRL things but there is no way to bridge the gap between url to irl. Safes work well when everything is onchain but as Nouns hosts events irl and there are other irl cost bridging this gap is a key area most DAO should be looking to fix.

This is where I think Gnosis DAO is uniquely positioned to solve this problem not just for us, Nouns but really any DAO that leverages MultiSig Safes. There is currently a meta to bridge your onchain wallet to irl spending, Moonwell/Fuse wallet are a great example of this.

The general idea is send funds to a MultiSig Safe, use Gnosis card to spend your money from Safe, and tag transactions with SafeNotes. This would bring a level of onchain dao transparency that we have never seen before. As an example, I do this with Splits currently but what I am proposing here is a decentralized permisionless onchain version of this.

What do people think? I feel like this moves the needle but maybe I am just too in the weeds.

Hey @gramajo really appreciated your post and the framing of the onchain-to-IRL gap. This has been on our minds too at Gnosis HQ. https://gnosishq.com/

We’ve already built much of the infra you described - multisig-connected corporate cards (spend from a Safe directly, self-custodial) and integrated transaction tagging and reporting. DAOs and ecosystem teams are already using it for real-world spend, contractor payouts, and treasury operations.

What we don’t have yet is the public-facing, permissionless tagging layer like SafeNotes, but that’s exactly the direction we’re exploring next. We’re thinking of building a UI and export layer that supports readable metadata for DAO spending, in line with the kind of transparency you described.

Would love to jam on this if you’re up for it!

Hey, thought this was a scam for a bit, lets jam!
